Transportation Safety Begins with You.

Your input is needed to make the streets and roads in your area safer.

As you may be aware, the Central Mississippi Planning & Development District (CMPDD) is developing a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Safety Action Plan to improve roadway safety aimed at significantly reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries for all users including motorists, pedestrians, bicyclists, and public transit riders for CMPDD’s seven county region.

During the first round of public outreach, the Visioning Phase conducted in late 2023, we identified safety improvement priorities by analyzing data and listening to input from stakeholders and citizens throughout central Mississippi.  Now that we have moved to the Strategies Phase, we are once again asking for your input.  Let us know your thoughts about the potential safety improvements identified by taking the short survey below.  The survey should take no more than five minutes to complete.

Maintaining City Roads, Enhancing Drainage, and Right of Way Maintenance

At the heart of our city's infrastructure, the Street Department plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and smooth transportation for all citizens. Our crews work to maintain and improve the condition of roads, drainage systems, and right of way areas, vital to the connectivity, aesthetics, and overall well-being of our city in a financially responsible manner.

Road Maintenance:

Our Street Department takes pride in its commitment to road maintenance. From routine repairs to resurfacing projects, we prioritize the upkeep of road surfaces to minimize hazards and ensure a comfortable driving experience for all. We constantly monitor road conditions and perform timely, financially responsible, maintenance enhancing both safety and convenience for our residents.

Effective Drainage:

The seamless functioning of our drainage systems is paramount to preventing flooding and maintaining the integrity of our city's infrastructure. Our Street Department clears stormwater drains, channels, and culverts to prevent blockages that could lead to localized flooding. By efficiently managing stormwater runoff to the best of our abilities, we safeguard private and public properties from potential water-related damages.

Right of Way Maintenance:

Beyond roads and drainage, our Street Department is also responsible for maintaining the right-of-way areas within our city. This includes regular grass cutting and vegetation control. These efforts not only enhance the overall aesthetics of our city but also ensure that visibility is maintained at intersections, contributing to safer driving conditions.

Citizens' Role in Clean Stormwater Runoff:

We believe that every citizen can contribute to maintaining the quality of stormwater runoff, which eventually finds its way into our water bodies. By adopting simple practices, such as proper waste disposal, refraining from littering, and minimizing the use of harmful chemicals in outdoor areas, you can make a significant impact on the cleanliness of our stormwater runoff. Additionally, consider participating in community clean-up events and spreading awareness about the importance of responsible stormwater management. Together, we can protect the environment and preserve the natural beauty of our city.
